My dad started the business in 1986, Tempo Investment Products, Inc., with a partner as a Do-It-Yourself investment product – a software macro written in Lotus 1-2-3 (this is the ‘80’s, afterall…) to help retail investors make investment decisions.  

This lasted a year or so; feedback was generally good, but those interested said that they didn’t want to do the small amount of data-input involved and many said, “By the way, could you manage our investments for us?”
